Cut the cable.

Sling TV

I hate to keep harping on my bad experience with cable TV but I love to share alternatives when I discover them. No wait, I take that back, I’m at war with cable TV and fed up with being ripped off by long lasting contracts. You can negotiate your rate only to find out it reverts back at a later date without notice.Cut the cable if you’re tired of being ripped off too, keep coming back to our blog as I continue to look for alternatives.

I was just made aware of a new alternative called Sling TV which launched February 9th. It works by streaming live TV from the internet, so you’ll need to have internet service to begin with.

The price is small $20 bucks a month but so is the selection of content. One nice thing is that there are no long term contracts so you can cancel at the end of the month if you don’t like it. It is the first service available like this.

Again the number of channels are limited. Right now it’s providing live channels from ESPN, AMC, TNT, CNN and Disney along with some other limited on-demand content. There are a bunch of ad on’s for an additional $5 per month but they aren’t anything too impressive to me anyway. It may have just what you are looking for.

Sling works anywhere in the US but you’ll need a stable broadband internet connection. Video quality is good and you won’t be able to tell the difference between Sling or any other cable TV service. A nice feature is that it is available on a wide range of devices including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android, iOS, and both Mac and PC computers. There is no sharing however. If you and your better half want to watch two different shows on two different devices, forget about it. Another draw back is that there is no pause, re-wind or fast forward. It’s just like an old TV if the phone rings you’re going to miss some of your show.

Right now because of it’s limitations it may be OK to subscribe to it along with a couple of other online offerings like Netflix, Hulu Prime or Amazon Prime. By it’s self I don’t personally think it offers enough. I’m sure it will however expand it’s offering or bring some competitors out of the wood work.

Come back soon there are a lot of alternative on the horizon.
