DirtyRemote

Some dirty thoughts, that’s all you needed to know but it is truly a fact. Your TV Remote is one of the Dirtiest things in your house. All the nooks, crannies and crevices are a breeding ground for a tremendous amount of bacteria and viruses. Your remote just sit’s around the living room all day 24 hours a day and is touched by every living thing in the house.

Uncle Charlie had some ribs and never washed his hands. He may have done a couple of other things in the rest room as well which we have don’t even want to think about. So he grabs the remote and starts pushing all the buttons trying to figure out how the TV even works. He’s looking to find that football game everyone is talking about but after pressing just about all the buttons on the remote he calls junior over to help him.

Junior was just playing with his pet rat but ran over to help Uncle Charlie. He reached for the remote and dropped it on the floor. He picked it up and saw it was covered in cat hair so he wiped it on his jeans. Something got up his nose and caused him to sneeze, right on the remote of course.

Juniors mother seeing this took the remote away and cleaned it on her apron. Unfortunately it was the same apron she wore to make the chicken they all just ate. She didn’t remember wiping her hands on her apron after handling the raw chicken. The good news is she found the channel Uncle Charlie was looking for. So she tossed the remote on the coffee table. John her husband came over and joined Uncle Charlie. John had a cup of coffee with cream and sugar in it, he liked it sweet. He tripped and spilled a little on the remote and some on the coffee table. He ran into the kitchen and grabbed a dish rag which was just use to wash all the dirty plates and wiped off the remote and the coffee table.

After watching the game for a few minutes John started to feel like he was coming down with something. He felt a sneeze coming on but it came over him so fast he didn’t have time to cover his mouth. John was coming down with a cold.

Just then the door bell rang and Brian their oldest just returned from a third world country on a humanitarian mission. He came home because he wasn’t feeling too good and felt like he was coming down with something. Having been away from home and wanting to hear the news he asked if he could change the channel for a moment…

What could happen next? Use your imagination. In the mean time realize your remote is subject to a lot of handling by a lot of different people. You should clean your remote weekly to avoid bacteria build up. Read the manufacturers directions carefully because a remote is still an electronic piece of equipment. If you’ve lost those directions there are may places on the internet that can direct you on what you need to do . You absolutely do not want to use water unless you really want an excuse to purchase a new remote control. We have found the best thing is to use either rubbing alcohol or a commercial contact cleaner, which you can find at most electronics stores. Giving your remote a good wipe down once a week can really help keep the bacteria count down but keep in mind that your remote will always be a great hiding place for germs.
