It Looks like the government will be stepping in soon and becoming more involved with your
Television Entertainment.

If you have a TV today chances are good that you don’t have many choices when it comes to who will deliver your content. Some of the larger cable companies pretty much have a monopoly on it. The competition is there but delivering their signals on a dish which means when the weather is bad, the signal is bad which is kind of limiting.

Companies like Comcast have an advantage with a direct cable into your house. Initially they started by simply adding a scrambler to your TV. It basically just blocked the channels you weren’t paying for. Today the cable box is acting like a VCR. It’s not only delivering live content it also has recorded content you can access at any time plus it allows you to record your own content. In some areas Comcast is even adding a collection of video games to their menu. You won’t see the price dropping much for a while. Sign up now and you’ll initially get a ton of things for a reasonable price, then SUPERSIZE!!!! You find yourself locked in paying three times as much before you know it. So, please pay attention before signing with any of these companies. It does however look like there is some change on the horizon, a little hope for the hopeless.

We’ve begun to hear rumblings that Uncle Sam will be adjusting TV and getting very involved soon. If they have it their way you will have more box and TV watching software options to choose from. There has also been talk about being able to buy your own phone or modem. A little competition is what the industry really needs to bring the prices down to a reasonable rate. New Laws could force TV Content Delivery companies to share channel information to outside companies such as Google, Apple and TiVo. They would probably have to provide their content in a generic format set by a government entity. It would also most likely include cable companies, content companies, apps and consumer interest groups.

With a few cables a current TV and a computer you can pretty much find any content your looking for today for free. Some content is still dealing with some buffering issues and you have to have some patience but it’s getting easier and easier. Whether it’s legal or not is yet to be determined. There are lots of changes coming and it won’t be long.
